Boys with changed voices are welcome to
audition for our Soprano, Alto, Tenor, Bass choir – Cappella.
Choral experience is necessary for success in this choir. |

Audition procedure |
What to expect at the audition:
|
Potential singers should be able
to carry a tune with a pleasant, undamaged singing voice. |
|
Sing several melodic patterns or
scales as directed by the conductor. |
|
Echo a rhythm pattern. |
|
The director will ask questions
to assess the singer’s music reading skills:
|
Reading music is not
required for 2nd – 5th graders. |
|
Some knowledge of music
theory is helpful for 6th and 7th graders. |
|
8th grade and above should
have some music theory/sight-reading ability. |
|
|
Each singer will be asked to
sing the first verse of “America” ("My Country 'Tis of Thee").
Singers may use sheet music if they wish during the audition. |
|
The audition process takes about
15 minutes. |

A wallet-size photo of the

Singers should wear appropriate
attire:

Slacks or jeans in good
condition and a collared shirt for boys (long pants: jeans in good
condition or other appropriate pants) & top, |
|
Skirt & top or a dress for girls
— no bare mid-drifts, halter tops,
short-shorts or other suggestive clothing, and |
|
Appropriate footwear. |

We are a tuition-based choral

Principals |
Alex Grambow — Artistic Director of Cantoris & Cappella
|
Alex Grambow,
artistic director believes that music provides children with a
unique way to learn about the world and a safe and nurturing
opportunity for self-expression. Before joining SCC as the
Artistic Director, Mr. Grambow worked with children in three
successful music programs. He taught in Twin Rivers Unified
School District where he ran two different music programs, one
at Foothill High School and the other at Foothill Ranch Middle
School. Between the two schools, he taught 5th through the 12th
grade and was in charge of four choirs and two bands. Prior to
Twin Rivers Unified School District, Mr. Grambow taught at
Harmony Stockton, Stockton Unified School District, an El
Sistema inspired program.
Mr. Grambow graduated from the University of the Pacific with a
Bachelor of Music degree with an emphasis in vocal music. While
attending UOP, Mr. Grambow was the recipient of the Presser
Scholarship. Mr. Grambow trained with Lynelle Wiens, Professor
of Voice, University of the Pacific. Mr. Grambow’s performing
experience includes Music Circus, Woodland Opera House Theatre
Company, Sacramento Choral Society and Orchestra and Westminster
Church Choir. Mr. Grambow is currently the Music Director at the
Northminster Presbyterian Church. |
Jessica Suderman — Choir Director of Cantabile &
Cantus
|
Jessica Suderman is
a talented and dedicated musician and teacher who has formally
studied music for over 20 years. She holds a bachelors degree in
music education and a single subject teaching credential in
music from Azusa Pacific University. In recent years, she has
worked with the Los Angeles Little Angels Children's Chorale and
the instrumental and choral programs of Pasadena High School.
Jessica teaches in the Twin Rivers Unified School District as
part of the elementary music Visual and Performing Arts Team.
She teaches classroom music and an after school choir. Jessica
is thrilled and honored to be joining the SCC community and
bringing more music into her student's lives. |

Profile |
Now in its 25th anniversary year, the
Sacramento Children’s Chorus is the region’s premier youth choral
ensemble, enjoying both critical recognition and broad audience acclaim.
The singers, representing five counties in the area, perform a wide
variety of modern and traditional works with numerous pieces reflecting
languages and cultures from around the world.
SCC presents 2-3 seasonal concerts
each year and has performed with the Sacramento Choral Society and
Orchestra, Sacramento Ballet, Sacramento Master Singers, Sacramento
Opera and at the Sacramento Jazz Festival. Other noteworthy civic
performances have included: National Anthem performances at the
Sacramento River Cats & Sacramento Kings games; the memorial services of
Congressman Robert Matsui and Mayor Joseph Serna, the inaugurations of
Gov. Gray Davis and Gov. Arnold Schwarzenegger, installation ceremony
for Superior Court Judge Louis Mauro, State Firefighters annual memorial
service, the opening of the legislative session, lighting of the state
Christmas tree and the grand opening of the new Crocker Art Museum. Our
touring choir has traveled to Hawaii, Colorado, Norway & Sweden, Oregon,
Canada, Carnegie Hall in New York City, the Czech Republic and Britain.
Twenty-eight singers from our advanced and SATB choirs traveled to
China in the summer of 2013. |
